MINIfume
- the mobile cyanoacrylate fuming chamber for the development of fingerprints on non-porous surfaces
Cyanoacrylate (superglue) fuming is a method for developing fingerprints on non-porous surfaces, such as metal, glass, and plastics. Our MINIfume series has been developed specifically for those who need all the high quality and reliability of a laboratory fuming chamber in a mobile unit suitable for use right at a crime scene or office.
In addition to our MOBIfume series, intended for larger spaces, we also offer MINIfume, designed to quickly and reliably develop small quantities of evidence on the go. When the evidence can’t be brought to the laboratory, MINIfume lets you bring the laboratory to your evidence.
MINIfume has the convenient features of the larger MEGAfume models, complete with pre-programmed and customizable evidence development cycles, active filter and cycle monitoring via a multilingual color touch-panel display, and an easy to clean interior.
Smaller object like knives, handguns, and bottles can all easily be fumed in the chamber. Just like with our larger MEGAfume models, chamber air is cleaned by an activated carbon filter and all cycle parameters can be recorded and viewed with our datalogger feature.

How do I clean the MINIfume interior?
During a cyanoacrylate fuming cycle, cyanoacrylate will stick to the interior chamber surfaces as well as your evidence. A clean chamber surface will attract less cyanoacrylate buildup, making fuming your evidence more effective, and will reduce the risk of evidence cross-contamination. We have made it easy to clean our units between uses to reduce cyanoacrylate and DNA contaminants.
We use tempered safety glass in our fuming chambers. It is easy to clean and resistant to scratching. This can be wiped down with a microfiber cloth dampened with cleaning solution shortly after an evidence fuming cycle. If the chamber won’t be cleaned right after use, we recommend removing cured cyanoacrylate from the glass using a fine steel wool (grade 000) or plastic scraping tool.
While very abrasive and corrosive cleaning agents should not be used to clean the stainless steel floor of the chamber, it can be wiped down with a microfiber cloth and mild cleaning solution, and other solutions used for decontamination, including alcohol and peroxide-based cleaners.
During cleaning, we recommend removing the chamber circulation fan, water reservoir, and air baffle. These are easy to wipe down separately. Any electrical contacts should be covered during cleaning, and any residue should be wiped off to help keep them fully functional. When cleaning any chamber, we recommend vacuuming out the chamber after the rest of the cleaning has been done to remove any dust or fibers from steel wool or cleaning cloths. -
How many cycles will my filter last?
The exact number of cycles your filter can be used for before it is saturated will depend on the type of developer you use and how much you use. Using more glue and developers that are more taxing on the filter life will of course mean your filter life is shorter than if you just use small amounts of standard developer. More details about this can be found in the filter management information section.
Using a typical amount of standard developer, our MINIfume model can run around 150 cycles before the filter needs to be changed. Users can keep track of the filter life on the filter management display, which will tell the user how much filter life they have left and when the filter needs to be changed. This can be done easily and without any special tools. -
What developers can I use with MINIfume?
MINIfume can be used with all known cyanoacrylate developers on the market, including one-step fluorescent developers. It can be used with developers that require temperatures between 100 – 250°C and 60-90% rH. Both liquid and powder developers can be used. Thanks to our cycle customization options that let you fully customize your cycle parameters, you’ll be prepared for developers that aren’t even on the market yet, making our systems more future-proof. Our filter management system can be adjusted for different developer types to accurately monitor your filter life, regardless of the type of developer you choose to use.
Our pre-programmed options include standard cyanoacrylate developer, and both liquid and powder fluorescent developer programs. In addition to the fully customizable program options, these pre-program cycle settings can be adjusted and saved as needed. -
What maintenence does the MINIfume require?
MINIfume is a very low maintenance system, like many of our other systems. is a very low maintenance system, like many of our other systems. Aside from the regular cleaning that all fuming chambers need, users simply need to replace the carbon filter when they are notified by the filter management system.
For quality assurance, we recommend that the unit be serviced regularly by an Attestor or Attestor certified partner.
For customers who require documented annual servicing and calibration as part of their ISO 17025 accreditation, we offer service contracts for regular service. These can also include parts warranties if desired. More information on this can be found under Service & Maintenance
