Fluorescence of latent fingerprints without the application of chemicals!

In a cooperation between Foster and Freeman and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia a totally new and interesting technology emerged, that allows to develop latent fingerprints on paper without the application of chemicals.

The resulting system TDF-2 moves the evidence automatically with a controlled speed along a heating element.

The trace will be heated up shortly to high temperatures. By this chemical interaction between the components of the latent print and the paper happens. 

As a result a by-product is created which fluoresces under illumination with blue rsp. blue-green illumination, e.g. with Foster + Freeman's  Crime-lite .
